Irish boxer Lynn Harvey ready to make her professional comeback this weekend

The 35-year-old has changed trainers since the defeat in November.

IRISH BOXER LYNN Harvey is hoping to a make a comeback from her first professional defeat last year, when she fights in Belfast later today.

Harvey, who is heading into her third fight in the professional ranks, faces Hungarian fighter Agnes Draxler (9-13, 1 KO) at the MHD Promotions ‘Inquisition’ bill in the Europa Hotel.

Thirty-five-year-old Harvey told The42 that she’s looking forward to the bout and says she’s eager to atone for her defeat in the National Stadium last November.

“I’m not gonna have a problem with her (Draxler), I’ll be fine but I feel like now, I just want to shut my mouth and just go and do the fight.”

“I said before the last fight that I was gonna win and I didn’t. I feel like now, ‘Lynn just shut up, just go up and do it and prove by doing it.’

“I feel like now I don’t want to say anything because I was wrong with the last one. I don’t really feel like I want to say anything about a fight before it. I know I feel grand, I feel relaxed, I feel confident. I just kinda feel like I want to let my boxing do the talking.

“I feel confident, I’m not worried. I won’t take her for granted either. She has a good record, a good bunch of wins, she’s had a few losses as well but she’s quite experienced.”

Harvey was originally fighting with the Celtic Warrior gym, but has since linked up with new trainer Tommy McCormack of the N7 Boxing Academy in Rathcoole.

The pair began working together shortly after her defeat to Mary Romero via judge’s decision at the National Stadium.

Harvey says she instinctively knew she had found her new coach.

“As we were talking, my instinct was just (saying), ‘He’s your coach.’ My gut is always right. So I text him one night and I said, ‘I’ve an important question to ask you.’ He knows me really well and knew me when I started boxing.”

“He agreed and said he’d give it 110% and he did. He was definitely glad because there’s multiple places I could have went, there’s loads of trainers I could have went to but I chose him.”

“Tommy lives, breathes and eats boxing for all his life. He knows his stuff.”

Beyond the meeting with Draxler this weekend, Harvey is also scheduled to fight in the National Stadium on 25 February as part of the Red Corner Promotions ‘Unfinished Business’ card.
